Dr. Diesel designed the diesel engine to burn various fuels including used cooking oil. Until recently, it was more affordable to burn what we know of as diesel fuel instead of recycled oil products. Now we have an opportunity to burn recycled cooking oil in our modern diesel engines and help reduce our dependence on foreign oil while supporting local green economies.
The Veggie Car has a heated fuel system custom integrated into the vehicle. This system heats up the filtered used cooking oil with a heated tank, fuel line, fuel filter, and flash heater in order to thin the oil before it enters the engine. The engine starts on diesel fuel and then switches over to heated cooking oil after the engine is warm. At the end of the drive, the engine is flushed with diesel for 30 seconds before the engine is shut down. Veggie Cars can always burn either diesel or biodiesel in the non-heated fuel system, and the heating system allows the engine to burn 100% used cooking oil year round in the second fuel system.
The Veggie Oil must be filtered and dewatered before it is pumped into the veggie tank. It is important to note that Veggie Oil is not Biodiesel. The primary advantage of biodiesel is that no conversion kit is required. The disadvantages of biodiesel are that it cannot be run at 100% in the winter time and that it requires the used of caustic reactants and petroleum products (methanol) for production. Veggie oil requires minimal processing, no reactants, and can be run at 100% concentration year-round, even in Alaska!Go Green While Saving Money Today with Veggie Oil Conversions!
